Homemade Deer Feeder

Because I’m a cheap bastard, I decided to take a turn at making a deer feeder.  I needed a few supplies:

  • Moultrey All In One Feeder Kit
  • 30 gallon steel trash can
  • Brown, Green, and Black spray paint
  • Rope

Behrens Steel 31-Gallon Silver/Galvanized Metal Trash Can with Lid

Simply follow the cutout template in the all-in-one timer kit and mount to the bottom of the trash can.

I camouflaged the trash can by first painting the entire can brown (you could also use tan).  Next I grabbed some leaves and simply sprayed green over them at random places.  I finished by grabbing some more leaves and spraying some black.  Here’s what it turned out like:

This was my first attempt at painting camo and it turned out pretty well.  Bottom line, you can’t really screw it up.

Finally, I put a 40 lb bag of deer food into the trash can and hung it from a tree.

More to come on how well it works after a few weeks, months…………
